Medical Stabilization

At Family Hospital Systems we treat both eating disorders and substance abuse patients. We provide care at the beginning of patients recovery journey the by offering Medical Stabilization to help patients enter recovery safely in a medically controlled setting.

Assessment and Admission:

    • Upon arrival at our facility, patients undergo a comprehensive assessment conducted by our medical and mental health professionals. This assessment includes medical history, substance use history, psychological evaluation, and nutritional assessment (in the case of eating disorders).
    • Based on the assessment results, an individualized treatment plan is developed to address the specific needs and challenges of each patient.
    • Patients are then admitted to the inpatient unit, where they are provided with a safe and supportive environment to begin their recovery journey.

Medical Stabilization:

    • For patients with alcohol or drug dependence, detoxification may be necessary to safely manage withdrawal symptoms.
    • Our medical team closely monitors patients during detoxification, providing medications and other interventions as needed to ensure their comfort and safety.
    • Once detoxification is complete, the focus shifts to medical stabilization. This involves addressing any underlying medical issues that may have arisen as a result of substance abuse or malnutrition (in the case of eating disorders).
    • Our medical team provides ongoing medical care and monitoring to address any physical complications and ensure the patient's overall health and well-being.

Psychotherapy:

    • Psychotherapy forms a crucial component of treatment for alcohol and drug abuse, as well as eating disorders. Patients participate in individual and group therapy sessions led by qualified therapists.
    • Therapy sessions are tailored to address the underlying psychological factors contributing to the patient's substance use or disordered eating behaviors.
    • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based approaches are utilized to help patients develop coping skills, challenge distorted thoughts and behaviors, and build a strong foundation for recovery.

Nutritional Rehabilitation (for eating disorders):

    • Patients with eating disorders receive specialized nutritional counseling and support to restore healthy eating patterns and address malnutrition.
    • Our team of registered dietitians works closely with patients to create individualized meal plans, educate them about nutrition, and support them in developing a healthy relationship with food.

Medication Management:

    • In some cases, medications may be prescribed to help manage withdrawal symptoms, cravings, co-occurring mental health disorders, or other medical issues.
    • Our medical team carefully monitors medication usage, adjusts dosages as needed, and provides education to patients about the purpose and potential side effects of medications.

Aftercare Planning:

    • As patients near the end of their inpatient stay, our team collaborates with them to develop a comprehensive aftercare plan.
    • This plan may include referrals to outpatient therapy, support groups, sober living homes, or other resources to help patients maintain their recovery and continue progressing toward their goals.

Throughout the treatment process, our facility prioritizes safety, compassion, and evidence-based care to support patients in achieving sustainable recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as eating disorders. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to address the complex needs of each individual and empower them to build a fulfilling life free from the grip of addiction or disordered eating.
